Things I Love Friday: 14.12.2012

This week:

Just a few days until I'm done my copywriting class-- that means I'm one third of the way to completing my web writing certificate at U of T!

♥ This past weekend I had an amazing time at my Aunt Suzie's. We made crafts and drank coolers until past midnight. Pretty much my definition of a good time.

♥ I did quite a few hours of Copy Consultation. It was fantastic. My clients are the best! (And you can be one of them... hint hint).

Little things which made me smile:

Wearing striped sweaters... lots of 'em. ♥ Peppermint Mocha lattes ♥ These cats
Welcome to the Rileys (didn't exactly make me smile, but it was a great film). ♥ Pizza buns
Letting go. ♥ My new favourite app Flyleaf's Fire FireChauncey
Metallic blue nail polish ♥ IKEA MONKEY!!! Cozy cable knit socks
♥ Laughing at myself for thinking the golden tamarin is called "golden tamarind"... oops!
Glittery eye shadow. Best Channukah present ever?! ♥ Planning for the new year

What was the highlight of your week?

Things I Love Friday 7.12.2012

As I start this week's TiLF, I'm inspired by a quote my mom emailed to me:

Isn't that just beautiful? So optimistic and empowering. I love it!

This week....

I'm almost done my copywriting course at U of T! I've learned a lot and feel very accomplished. I earned 100% on my last assignment!

My bronchitis is finally going away.

I made a video to welcome you to Polish and Sparkle! The lighting is a little wonky because I'm not used to vlogging, but it's the thought that counts, right? Right?

Little things which made me smile:

Wearing earrings my best friends bought me (huge, vibrant flowers from Tush and a sweet little R and E from Chana). I feel pretty! Spending Tuesday with my mom. Buying a yellow and grey striped sweater dress (which I am obsessed with!). Sweet messages from Stacy. ♥ Lea Michele & Amber Riley's rendition of Take Me or Leave Me (from Rent) on repeat. ♥ My 'home state', Florida, is "the undisputed winner of WTF". I love you, Florida. Planning a visit to my out-of-town aunt's, for this weekend. ♥ Sharp cheddar cheese. Yum! ♥ This week's 2 Broke Girls was pretty great.

Things I Love Friday 16.11.2012

Hey darlings!

I'm at home with an awful cold (which I've complained about sooo much already. Ugh!). In an effort to get better, I'm doing this stuff as well as focusing on being grateful for everything awesome that's happened this week. Join me?

Highlights:

♥ Sorry to be so vague about this one, but... Really exciting things are happening here, to be unveiled soon! Eeeee!!

♥ I was invited to cover the One of a Kind Christmas Show (November 22-December 2) for Fashion Beauty Body Image. I've covered the show before, and it's always fun-- and a great place to do some holiday shopping.

♥ I'm feeling especially grateful for my parents today. I know they're far from perfect, but they instilled a lot of incredible values in me, gifts I'll continue to discover for years to come. I'm very blessed.

Little things which made me smile:

♥ Tomato soup... yummy. ♥ A really sweet email from Shirley
♥ Got my Glymm box today! It's fun to get samples of cosmetics in the mail every month. ♥
My Cat is a Dick. *giggle* ♥ Marilyn Wann's HAES talks. She's brilliant. ♥
♥ Oh my goodness, I love imgfave! ♥

How about you? What made your week?

P.S. If you're thinking about doing your own TiLT/F list, you should read what Gala Darling said about her experience:

"...learning to see the blessings in your life is one of the fastest ways to feeling true, genuine happiness. I’ve been writing my Things I Love Thursday column for six years now — that’s crazy! — & it really helps me keep perspective. It is so easy to grumble & grizzle, to be pedantic & pout, but it takes skill & discipline to look on the bright side.

My weekly TiLT lists serve a few purposes. Firstly, it gets me to focus on the positive, & not just in some abstract way: it forces me to really sit down, assess my life, & shine a light on the best parts of it. Secondly, it serves as a kind of “happy diary”, a way of chronicling & remembering my life — which I need, because my memory is not what it used to be!

I’m sure that to some people, my writing of a public gratitude list is weird & incomprehensible. I don’t write this to boast; instead, I write it to hopefully persuade you to do the same. When I commit myself to doing this every week, out loud & in public, maybe that will inspire you to commit in a similar way.

Writing a list of your blessings doesn’t have to take a long time — it could be as short as a tweet! — but it is an instant mood picker-upper, & the long-term effects from doing it on the regular are immense & wonderful".

Isn't that gorgeous?

Pina Coladas & Productivity: Things I Love Friday 27.7.2012

Happy Friday, gorgeous!

I'm having a really great day today. I woke up super early to work on some projects (query letters, graphics for Fashion Beauty Body Image and research for Socialexis), so I'm energized and feeling accomplished. I'm going to do a few more hours' work, then spend the rest of the day organizing my office and watching a Monk marathon. What are you up to today?

♥ Getting used to my new hair ♥ Lunch with Chana, Tush & Shirley This songPina coladas and smoked blue cheese with my dad ♥ Minted by Revlon Cherry Pepsi

TiLT 12.7.2012: Off to Buffalo!

It's Thursday, sugar! You know what that means... Time for Things I Love Thursday.

The highlights:

Taking ridiculous, adorable pictures with Chana and Tush on a Maltesers-fueled sugar high was pretty awesome. I don't talk about them enough here, do I? My childhood best friends, Chana and Tush (and Shu, who's part of our group, but whom I rarely get to see) are so dear to me. Throughout my anxiety disorder-plagued elementary school days and tumultuous teen years they've been by my side, and now, in our 20s, we're closer than ever. More than anything, I wish for every woman to have friends this incredible. Friends who are practically sisters.

Working with Alexis Grant. I've read her blog for years and admired her for almost as long. If you don't follow The Traveling Writer, you definitely should. I read it religiously when I went on my first cross-continent adventure, especially on the days when I was scared out of my mind! Alexis is also an incredibly successful freelance writer and entrepreneur, so you can see why I look up to her so much. I think I'm rambling (which is okay I guess, because TiLT is the most personal of FBBI's series, but I digress... I'm excited!

Amanda Palmer's video for Want It Back just came out, and it's incredible. Artistic and emotional and just... so AFP. You should watch it.

Little things which made me smile:

Listening to Lana Del Rey on repeat Running into my dad and brother at Indigo
Katy Perry: Part of Me Thin-crust Kalamata olive and feta pizza The Ramen Girl
Nautical stripes, everywhere! Girl's night out with Hannah and Maman Discovering Keshet Blog love from my twitter friends ♥

I'm off to get ready for my mini trip, but don't worry-- I have a fashion post to share before I leave, and lots of pretty pictures and other exciting stuff queued up on tumblr.
