Internet raises money for homeless man who returned lost engagement ring.
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
Never has that old adage been more literally on the money than in the case of Billy Ray Harris, a homeless man in Kansas City, Missouri who returned a diamond ring to a woman who accidentally dropped it in his coin cup when she gave him some cash.
Harris returned the ring to the woman and now people from all over are coming together to help him out...
Harris has taken his good fortune in stride, saying, “I like it, but I don’t think I deserve it. What I actually feel like is, ‘what has the world come to when a person who returns something that doesn’t belong to him and all this happens?’”

6 words English got from Hindi. So cool! I had no idea were the word 'shampoo' originated.

Here are a bunch of pictures of Justin Timberlake doing things

Carol Tice says it's necessary to invest money in your freelance business start-up; you can't start sans funding. What do you think? My opinion: starting a freelance writing biz requires much less cash than other types of businesses, but it does require some. "If your bank account is empty, do you have to give up your freelance writing dream? Not necessarily." She goes on to list ways to cope with lack of funding, including lowering your expenses and relying on credit cards-- both of which I've done, unfortunately. Difficult, but doable. Your thoughts?

I completely agree with Carol Tice: freelance writers need to build their social media audience now. (If you need to hire a social media strategist, I'd love to help! Contact me here).

Leo Babauta's New Rules of Fitness is a brilliant post. Here's my favourite part:
Let’s take a cue from how we actually live and think today, and change up fitness... If we take cues from our online world today, here’s how we’d do fitness... In the world of tweets and SMS messages, long classes or gym workouts or jogging sessions just don’t seem to fit. We don’t have time for all of that. So toss out the workout, and instead think of fitness as small as a tweet. Sprint up a hill after getting off the train or parking your car. Sprint up a flight of stairs as you go into the office. Do some pushups before a meeting. Do some squats after sitting for 30 minutes. Pick up a friend, put him on your shoulders, and carry him for a block. Let’s call it a fitness bit instead of a workout.

I can't believe I didn't know about this! Gmail shortcuts seem really useful.

Emma Stone covers Glamour UK February 2013, while Emma Watson covers Marie Claire UK.

Photobombs, Cats & Hotel 'Hacks': Link Love 12.13.2013

Hello, doll! Have fun perusing this week's links, and be sure to share your faves in the comments below.

Jennifer Lawrence covers this month's Vanity Fair.

If you travel a lot, this list of hotel 'hacks' is gold.

This article about grapefruit is hilarious. (For the record, I love grapefruit).

Jessica at Too Many Sequins is very stylish. I love this skirt!

Photobombs!

MAC is doing something a little different for their Strength campaign, and I like that. (via Stoya).

Love, Charity & Understanding Chronic Pain: Link Love 5.1.2013

Oh my goodness, the first Link Love of 2013! (It feels kind of weird to type out "2013" instead of "2012"). I hope this year is treating you well, so far!

Snowflake ballerinas! These are so pretty. Here's a free template.

This "Message of Love" poster by Goddess Leonie is absolutely gorgeous (and it's free, too!).

I've always wanted to visit Antarctica. These photos of Emperor penguins just fuel my desire!

Does the fact that these are celebrity photobombs make these pictures funnier? Either way, the Kermit/Lady Gaga one is hilarious.

This chart is very helpful for understanding chronic pain.

You can be fat and fit.

Veronica's post about travelers' phone charger karma is adorable.

There's a web app that suggests books to read, based on your twitter feed! How cool is that?! Okay, so I didn't find it very accurate... But it was fun. How'd it do based on your tweets?

Hot cocoa with snowflake marshmallows! Another winter drink: festive fizz cocktail. And one more: peppermint hot chocolate.

I totally agree with The Frisky: we former teen goths really do get the last laugh. Goth-inspired beauty is en vogue this winter.

Few winter accessories are as cozy or casual as the beanie.

This DIY wreath from Canadian Family looks easy to make, not mention festive.

Amazing Christmas lights.

Also Christmas-related: Dear Santa Letter sent 100 years ago found up chimney. Isn't that incredible?!

Another holiday article: Traditional Hanukkah Dishes. I looooove latkes!

This Christmas lyrics banner tutorial is fabulous. Glitter!

10 charming words for nasty people, from Merriam-Webster.

How do you feel about these "worst fashion trends"? I can't believe anyone ever thought drop crotch pants were a good idea, but I like spirit hoods. They're cute.

In rural India, over 80% of women use unsanitary rag cloths during menstruation. These cloths can cause infections and even infertility, cancer, and death. When a man discovered that his wife was using such cloths, he designed a sanitary pad-- and even tested it himself. Now manufacturing and selling the pads is a growing business in multiple Indian states, and a documentary film has been made about it. Incredible!

I want these Mockingjay cookies!

4 Twilight Movies According to Someone Who Hasn't Seen Them is pretty entertaining.

I like this career advice from Penelope Trunk.

Hey Ocean!, Winter Knits & Emma Stone: Link Love: 24.11.12

10 Ancient Beauty Products is an interesting (but slightly horrifying) read from Lip Magazine.

Emma Stone's style is always on point!

"Wear your mood on your finger" with The Bay's mood ring that supports Not Myself Today, a Canadian mental health initiative. A good cause and an excuse to wear fun jewellery? Count me in!

The right way to care for winter knits. Do you 'follow the rules'?

A rare white falcon was recently spotted at a Scarborough, ON mall. Usually these birds are only found in the arctic!

I love this outfit post from Not So Starving.

Sure, I enjoy reading Cosmo from time to time, but these sex tips? Terrifying. Please take them with a grain of salt (hell, the whole shaker!).

Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock are going to star in a movie together! I'm looking forward to this, aren't you?

I talk about Hey Ocean! a lot, but they're an incredible band, and they have another new video out, sooo... :) "I'm a Heart".

Link Love 17.11.2012: Public Transportation, Scrub Soaps & Apple Cake

Hey, it's Saturday! Enjoy this week's links:

I really liked this interview with Kristen Stewart.

Amanda Palmer's open letter to PETA about their latest ad campaign.

I love all things Oz, so I'm looking forward to Disney's Oz: the Great and Powerful. How about you?

How to get verified on Pinterest.

Scrub Soaps are ah-mazing! I'm enjoying the scent and texture of Bath and Body Works' new cashmere one. although I find it leaves some residue, which is kind of icky. Good to know there are more options to try!

This easy apple cake contains only 4 ingredients and looks delish!

Have you seen the Target + Neiman Marcus holiday collection look book yet? What do you think?

Cracked's list of 6 Unspoken Rules of Public Transportation is pretty amusing, not to mention accurate.

Julianne Moore looks amazing as L'Oreal's newest spokesperson. I have such a crush on her!

Torre Deroche makes a great point about people's reactions to solo travel:

"...I trust that other adults are capable of doing their own research in order to make sensible decisions for their lives. When somebody is floating sky-high in a bubble of inspired bliss, I don’t go shooting at them with missiles of death and fear.
Adventure may be risky, but so is life. It comes with a 100% chance of death.
And while I’m touched that people take time out of their day to offer free safety tips and third-hand horror stories, I don’t understand why morbid warnings are a socially acceptable reaction to talk of travel and adventure".

Work Save Live is giving away an iPad mini!

Kris Atomic's photos of models reading is pretty cool.

Have you tried Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics' Lip Tar? I'm tempted to!

And finally, in Lip Magazine, Sarah Fortuna says:

"The ultimate tip for building a happy community – embrace the position you acquired as soon as you moved in. You are a member of your local community, just as much a part of it as anyone else with the same postcode. You’ve got a network of people around you who care about the streets you live on, which is pretty nice when you think about it".

I find that empowering.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Link Love 27.10.2012

Happy Saturday, sugar! Link time:

Taylor Swift's new video for Begin Again is fantastic. It's beautifully done, it's a lovely song, and it's a bit of a departure from her teen angst-infused love songs.

This Slut Votes is a great resource for those affected by the upcoming American election, who identify as feminist, or who simply think slut-shaming is stupid.

This week, the quality of Ragen Chastain's writing is unsurpassed! An excerpt from her latest article about the "Skinny Minnie Mouse" campaign:

'I’ve seen this won’tsomebodythinkofthefatties technique used in discussions from global warming to contraception to politics.  It goes like this – someone writes a blog or article that says  “here is my well thought out opinion on this issue that has nothing to do with fat people.”  Then someone literally leaves a comment that says “But what about obesity?”

'What about it?  Dude, this has nothing to do with obesity.  You might as well have said “What about the new Smurfs movie?” It’s exactly as relevant. Besides which, obesity is a body size – it’s not an eating disorder, it’s not a diagnosis, it’s not the problem, and it’s not part of the discussion. It’s a body size".'

Cat Bounce: I haven't got a clue what this nonsense is, but it's mesmerizing! (link via Nubby Twiglet).

Emergency Compliment is fantastic. (Also via Nubby).

Mr Obama seems like such a fantastic guy. In this interview, Obama states that rape is rape, cracks jokes and is overall good-natured and awesome. And he mocks Donald Trump. Ha!

This post from Amanda Abella at Grad Meets World is quite empowering:

"Regardless of whether you’re in debt up to your eyeballs, living in your parents’ basement or working a measly hourly job you have to be very clear on one thing: you have to know that you are valuable. You have to believe in abundance. You have to get in a mind set where you are confident about your finances regardless of what is going on right now".

Enjoy your weekend!

Link Love 13.10.2012: NYC, Jobs & Plus Size Fashion

Link Love 29.9.2012: 2 Broke Girls, Pie & Sparkly Dresses

Hey, it's Saturday! Time to cozy up with some links:

USWeekly's slideshow of Taylor Swift's trademark sparkly dresses is drool-worthy!
What does your nail polish say about you? Apparently I'm vivacious and fearless! How about you?

Zesty cheeseburger mac sounds hearty and delicious! Since I don't eat beef, I'd try leaving it out or substituting more veggies and/or soy crumble. How about you?

Click this if you wish you were in Florida!

These tips for saving a few extra dollars a week are very actionable.

2 Broke Girls is back! I love this article about lessons Kat Dennings' and Beth Behrs' characters can teach entrepreneurs about starting a business.

I love this post from Southern Belle Simple. Kate says,

"We all know that when pie is sliced, everybody gets a piece. There's only so much to go around and a bigger piece for me might mean that you're stuck with a smaller piece. This all makes sense to me in the world of pie. But why have we taken this pie theology and applied it to other things in life? For instance, why do we believe there is only so much success to go around? Success is not pie".

That's it for this week, gorgeous! Have a wonderful Saturday!
